Love languages – how to keep romance alive in lockdown
Lockdown has been never ending with us almost coming up to a year of being locked indoors. Many relationships have been greatly tested during these times and sadly a lot have ended. So, if you are still in a relationship that has lasted lockdown congratulations to you two. At this point if your relationship can get through a year lockdown you can get through anything. However, your relationship may of survived, but has the romance?
In lockdown you are spending everyday together however, this can get very repetitive and may not be quality time. By making a conscious effort of doing new activities to change things up can help. With us being allowed to go out for excersise you and your partner can go for a walk. Whether this be everyday after work or on a Sunday. This allows you to both get out the house, away from the TV and spend quality time together. You can explore new areas of where you live and is a great time to communicate, talk about your day/week and plans for the fuure. This allows you to stretch your legs, get some fresh air and properly talk to your partner without distractions.
Next up can be cooking together, whether this again be daily or at the weekends, this is a great activity to do together where you both get involved. This can be fun to try new recipes as we can’t go out to restaurants and a great alternative to ordering a takeaway. This can be like a date night where you set aside time to do this, to help some sort of routine and time to spend together.
When living with your partner things can become more relaxed and you don’t always show them appreciation. Small things can make all the difference such as bringing them breakfast in bed, making them a cup of tea or buying their favourite chocolate. All very small and inexpensive things, but can make a world of difference to know that they are being thought about, which is most important.
If you and your partner are living apart this lockdown there are still some things you can do! A nice idea could be sending your partner a care package, such as their favourite snacks, maybe some face mask, some pictures of you two together. You could even bake them something, which can be a fun activity for you also! None of this has to be expensive but receiving a well thought package of their favourite things can help.
Another idea is zoom dates! I am sure you both facetime where you can but by making a little more effort and planning them like a date can make them feel a whole lot more special. You could either watch a movie / tv show together on facetime. Or even have a dinner date together where you could order or make the same food and sit together like you are on a real date. Maybe even dress up a bit, put some makeup on, get out of your pyjamas and loungewear, just to make it feel different to other nights. It may sound silly but it’s the closest we are going to get to the real thing anytime soon!
You’ve got this! NN. x
