SAVING SUMMER: 4 POST-LOCKDOWN TRAVEL DESTINATIONS

Coronavirus took many things away from us with our summer holidays being the biggest steal of them all. We have all desperately missed out on travelling this year, but our summer has been saved just in time. The announcement that many different countries have released their travel restrictions was a long-awaited one. This is your guide to the best places to travel abroad after lockdown where no quarantine is necessary:

Sicily, Italy

Sicily is a picturesque island off the coast of Italy and is full of culture and incredible sights. After being locked inside for months, Sicily is a beautiful place to welcome you back to the world of travelling, brimming with museums and attractions. From Catania to Palermo, Sicily has an array of cities and towns each with something to offer.

Not only is Sicily such a beautiful part of Italy, but you may also be tempted by their post-lockdown hospitality. To help boost their economy after the virus the island will pay for half of your flights and every third night of your hotel stay. So, if you are looking for a cheap holiday in a beautiful destination then Sicily may be the holiday for you.

The only catch is that this offer will only take place in autumn. But don’t let that stop you visiting in what we have left of the summer months.

Places worth visiting:

1. The Greek temples: Greek history in Sicily is one of its most unique characteristics. Some of the ones you must see are Agrigento, Selinunte and Segesta.

2. Aeolian Islands: Head over to the Aeolian islands for a spot of island hopping to see some idyllic sights.

Get your authentic pizza and pasta fix this summer by visiting Italy.

Croatia

Croatia has remained one of the least affected countries through the outbreak of the virus making it one of the safest places to visit post-lockdown.

Croatia is bursting with beauty with a variety of different breath-taking landscapes to enjoy. From mountains and waterfalls to cliffs, lakes and beaches Croatia really has it all. The natural beauty of Croatia is not all that you will enjoy if you venture here. Croatia has areas of historic culture and other areas that are contemporary with lavish hotels, chic cocktail bars and is the home to many music events (although all cancelled until next year).

In Croatia, you will get excellent value for money which may be something important to you after months of furlough. The best value will be in smaller areas rather than in big cities like Dubrovnik.

There is so much to do around Croatia and now is a better time than any to get involved and tick some things of your bucket list, especially after being stuck indoors for half the summer.

Cancun, Mexico

Mexico is an amazing holiday destination, with gorgeous white sandy beaches and tropical reefs. Mexico is the place for relaxation and adventure all tied into one. Snorkelling, swimming with dolphins and experiences the Mayan culture are three things you should put on your to-do list this summer if you visit Mexico.

Mexico is another country that is prepared to boost its economy. Allegedly, Hotels in Cancun are willing to offer Brits the ‘come to Cancun 2x1’ offer. This includes two free nights for every two nights you pay for at a hotel. There is also the possibility of plane ticket reductions or refunds!

There is so many amazing and lavish hotel to choose from, all that will be considerably cheaper this year. If you are like me, you love a bargain and there has been no better time to treat yourself to luxury and an exciting venture.

Places worth visiting:

1. The Underwater Museum: If you’re a water fiend and love history, you should definitely take a trip here. 500 sculptures were created, and their materials encourage coral reef development. It is such a unique experience.

2. Maya City of Chichen Itza: This is a cultural experience and is famous for its ancient pyramids.

Mykonos, Greece

Mykonos is one of the most luxurious and expensive islands in Greece. The beaches in Mykonos are undeniably their biggest natural attraction. Mykonos is known for its beach parties and nightlife. So, if you have ticked Ibiza of your party bucket this then Mykonos is your Greek equivalent, only more exotic.

The island communities are heavily reliant on tourism so help their economy by enjoying a beautiful Greek getaway. Mykonos is usually a very expensive holiday destination but due to Coronavirus, you can bag a holiday for as little as £400.

Places to visit

1. Little Venice: This is such a picturesque part of Mykonos, with beautiful views of the sunset like you have never seen before. The town resembled the history of Mykonos and the buildings have so much colour and character.

2. Cavo Paradiso: This is an open-air venue that helps Mykonos live up to its party name. Get partying after this lockdown because I know you have missed it!

But, remember to be safe and stay vigilant
