Summer Rituals

Summer is well and truly approaching, and we are so excited about it! We live for the long days, balmy evenings, days spent at the beach, freckles, feeling tan, and just the over-all better feelings we genuinely feel during the summer. Who can agree?

Here are some practices we want to incorporate into our morning routines, to do…

Make coffee, slowly

Treat yourself and invest into a coffee maker that becomes a slow ritual you can practise most mornings. Something that focuses your mind and gets you excited for that first sip. Try pourover or using a V60 dripper, it becomes more of a enjoyable expereince then just guzzling coffee for it’s energising benefits.

Wake up earlier

The advantages to waking up earlier are usually pretty obvious. Not only do you gain more time to do things that you really want to do, like exercise, but you also gain more time to be with yourself to reflect, meditate, or carry other morning rituals that help you get into a good state of mine for the day. A lot of people find that they are more productive in the early hours of the day. It’s also been shown that sleeping early and waking up early helps that body attune with the earth’s circadian rhythms which helps promote more restorative sleep.

Dry Body Brushing

Not only is the mechanical action of dry brushing wonderful for exfoliating dry winter skin. It also really helps detoxify by increasing blood circulation and promoting lymph flow/drainage. Dry brushing unclogs pores in the exfoliation process. It also stimulates your nervous system, which can make you feel invigorated afterward.

Breathwork

Like meditation, breathwork is so important for us on so many levels. But in general, the goal of any type of breathwork is to connect and find a great sense of self-awanress and the capacity for self-healing. Breathwork is an active meditation which involves guided breath, pulled in and out of the mouth for extended intervals.

Write your journal

Writing a journal is great for setting intentions, getting everything off your mind onto paper and rationalising your thoughts, feelings and emotions, so that you’re ready to face and enjoy your day with a clear mind. It’s a great place to make sense of what is going on in your head so that you can start your day with a clear and empty(er) mind. It’s a place that won’t judge you, no matter what you’re thinking. You can also express gratitude through writing, by writing down all the things you are grateful for and appreciate.
