SPIKED HOT CHOCOLATES

Sometimes, all you need is a big mug of hot chocolate, an evening re-watching your fav box sets and a mountain of your cosiest blankets. In the winter we need this for our soul more than we would like to admit… but hey, isn’t that what the winter is for? You probably are familiar with the word, but all of this cosiness is also know as Hygge (hoo-gah). Hygge is a Danish word for a quality of cosiness (feeling warm, comfortable, and safe) that comes from doing simple things such as lighting candles, baking or drinking a warm drink. It’s a lovely idea and makes winter all that more bearable. So cozy on up, hibernate and enjoy every single minute of relaxing, whilst sipping on a spiked hot chocolate…

Hot Chocolate Night Cap

Ingredients

  • 2 cups almond milk or milk of choice

  • 4 Tbsp dark chocolate chips

  • 2 Tbsp cocoa powder

  • 2 tsp coconut sugar

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla bean extract

  • 2 Tbsp rum

  • 3-4 marshmallows to serve

  • 1 tsp cocoa powder to dust

Instructions

  1. In a medium sized saucepan over high heat, bring milk, chocolate chips, cocoa, sugar and vanilla to a boil. Whisking occasionally to create a little froth.

  2. Once steam is coming off the surface, remove from heat and whisk through rum.

  3. Pour into mugs.

  4. Top with marshmallows and dust with cocoa powder.

  5. Serve and Enjoy!


Bourbon Spiked Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk

  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder

  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 2 oz semi sweet chocolate

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

  • 1 1/2 oz bourbon

  • whipped cream

  • caramel

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, add milk, cornstarch, and cocoa powder together. Whisk well until thoroughly combined.

  2. Heat on medium-high and add the brown sugar, salt, and chocolate. Stir frequently until the mixture is steaming hot and the chocolate is completely melted.

  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla and bourbon.

  4. Pour the hot chocolate into a mug and top with whipped cream and caramel.


Kahlua Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk

  • 2 tablespoons sugar

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Dutch-processed unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

  • Pinch of nutmeg

  • 1 ounce Kahlúa coffee liqueur

  • Mini marshmallows, for serving

  • Salted caramel, for serving

  • Chocolate syrup, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine milk, sugar, cocoa powder, cinnamon and nutmeg over medium heat until heated through, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in Kahlúa.

  2. Serve immediately, garnished with mini marshmallows, salted caramel and chocolate syrup, if desired.
